SubwBeing homeless can be really tough, whether you are human or an animal. Life in the streets is hard especially when you don’t know where to get your next meal. But the stray dog in this story just got lucky when she discovered helpful employees at a Subway Sandwich Shop located in Portales, New Mexico.
According to the employees, who dubbed the dog as “Subway Sally”, the gentle stray dog has shown up every night for the past whole year. One of the employees named Giovanni Luhman, decided to film Sally having her night snack.
The video was initially posted on Tiktok. The dog can be seen standing outside the door, patiently waiting for her evening meal. “This stray dog has been coming to subway every night for the past year,” Giovanni wrote alongside the clip. He also added, “we always feed her.”
As seen in the video, the adorable pooch meets him as he opens the door and gently bites on the food he offers. She is given a helpful serving of chicken and turkey. A lady also shares that if they were too late to give her some food, she would go across the street to Taco Bell.
To Gio’s surprise, the next morning when he woke up, the video had already gone viral and has garnered over 10 million views. Gio shares that he just thought it would be cute to share his video but never imagined that it would get a lot of attention and views. According to CBS affiliate KRQE, people are actually visiting the shop these days, hoping to catch a glimpse of Sally.
Gio urges people to not just care for stray animals on social media alone, but in real life too.
Gio also told CBS News that he would start a pet food drive to help low-income families in hopes that their pets won’t end up on the streets because they can’t be taken care of.
Here is the uplifting video of how Subway Sally became an internet sensation, which will hopefully raise awareness for other stray pets.
